Meet  Jenica!

My name is Jenica and I’m the youngest member of Jean’s Academy of music and a third generation music teacher. I was a student of Jean’s Academy from the age of 4 to the completion of RCM Grade 9 piano before moving to Alberta, where I continued my studies with Dr. Dale Wheeler in Red Deer. I completed my Grade 10 RCM at the age of 15 and am currently pursuing further studies in Harmony at JAM.

Growing up I was continually surrounded by music of different instruments of genres and developed an interest in the guitar at the age of 6. I started learning on the acoustic but found significantly more joy when I got my first electric.

I first started teaching at 16 after I finished my Grade 10 RCM, and began studying pedagogy at JAM when I moved back from Alberta which helped support all the tools I’d learned growing up in a music school. I spent time substituting at a music school in Mission and at another studio here in Abbotsford. Currently I’m enjoying discovering how to make lessons fun, effective and interactive through online lessons and love being able to work with people from all over!

For me the study of music history brought life to the music and learning about the composers was a fascination when I began to pursue the RCM history courses.  Imagine my excitement when Grandma offered me the option of teaching music history for all the students of JAM ready to tackle it! Due to the confined studio space I have at my location and space at the main studio at a premium, I will be offering these classes virtually.  The JAM library is available to everyone wishing to borrow books.

Availability:

  • I’m accepting piano students from beginner - RCM level 5
  • Beginner to intermediate guitar students.
  • Music History: virtually
  • Currently I am located in Abbotsford BC. Studio space is limited at the moment; however I do have more availability and flexibility with virtual lessons.

Teaching style:

  • My musical education is based on classical training, but my first priority is for students to enjoy what they are learning and am willing to tailor studies to the students’ interest.
  • I believe in learning based on foundational technique and theory that can be applied universally. I am aware that everyone learns differently and believe it is important to work with students’ individual learning needs.
